Over the couple weeks, Sunshine came knocking at my door...!
Also known as Linda Kaywood (Bilyeu), Sunshine asked if I could edit her "Letter to Cancer - Lessons Learned"...
Below is my public response to Sunshine - yes, of course, in letter form...
I was honored to edit your "Letter to Cancer - Lessons Learned". You are such a powerful writer that I had very little work to do if truth be told.
I did cry my way through the first read, so that didn't count. I won't try to leave an Amazon review (LOL).
For the record, I cry 'whenever' I am moved or inspired by what I read / see, whether I 'know' you or not.
I am admittedly biased where you and this subject are concerned - proud of it.
I am a nurse. I have loved family and friends who have died from cancer. I have taught countless nurses with cancer or caring for a loved one with cancer.
And Linda, no one has ever expressed the range of emotions and the realities of this monster like you - bold, brazen, passionate, with plenty of compassion and humanity.
I can see a doctor or a nurse talking with a client, while giving them a copy of this book as back up. Your words are meant to be referred to often - daily, if needed - whatever it takes for comfort or ammunition.
As I read your book, I can hear you cheering the reader (the patient or the caregiver) on... I can only imagine the feelings of inner strength and empowerment you are instilling with your written word.
I love that this resource available in e-book format as well so I can send to friends or colleagues as needed.
This was a review from my friend Vicki Warner. As you can guess, Amazon would not approve her review either...however, it's stellar, just like your book - so it's my pleasure to share with you and all my readers:
This book's for you . . ., June 1, 2015
This review is from: Letter to Cancer - Lessons Learned (Kindle Edition)
If you don't want to read massive amounts of info about cancer. If you are going through the struggles of battling it, or know someone else who is. Sobering thought - then, it's for everyone.
The author describes her and her family's ongoing war with this demon disease. She puts it more succinctly - Cancer sucks!
I like the way she writes this in the form of a cathartic letter to the big C. It's intimate, angry, but at the same time very spunky, and no nonsense. You'll be roused to fight instead of being fearful and succumbing.
Wise counsel from someone who really knows. Gotta have five stars.
I was listening to the radio the other day and heard a song that was new to me by Joy Williams (known from the now defunct 'Civil Wars'). I immediately thought of you, Linda - your courage - your strength - what a role model for all WOMEN you are...
Check this song out, including some of my favorite lyrics:
"Woman (Oh Mama)"
by Joy Williams
Woman monster, woman child,
Woman hero, woman wild
Woman whisper, woman scream
Woman listen, woman free
Woman Mary, Jezebel
Woman heaven, woman hell
Woman teacher, womankind
Woman nature, woman rise
Sunshine, in wrapping up this public note, I'd like to offer a link to both of your books, as it was only two weeks ago I asked you to keep writing, after your phenomenal debut of "Haiku by Sunshine".
Sunshine, as you say to so many of us, keep shining - we need you!
Proud of you,
Here are a few links to some of the recent words worthy of checking out in Weeblyhood:
