marcoujor: Inspiration by Association

Ever since I was a little girl, I have filled journals with quotes/words that continue to inspire me through the years.

This post includes a smattering of these meaningful thoughts about a variety of life issues - yet sharing one thing in common.

I associate each of these quotes with my wise Mom. These are some of the core beliefs she instilled into me though my most impressionable, childhood years.

Each standing the test of time, I now try to reinforce these thoughts with my nursing students - especially in the clinical arena...

  • “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. (Thomas Jefferson)

  • “Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble.” (Frank Tyger)

  • “Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win.” (Jonathan Kozol)

  • “Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” (Robert H. Schuller)

  • “Don’t let people pull you into their storm. Pull them into your peace.” (Kimberly Jones)

  • “When you give your children knowledge, you are telling them what to think. When you give your children wisdom, you do not tell them what to know, or what is true, but, rather how to get to their own truth.” (Neale Donald Walsch)

  • “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” (Marcus Tullius Cicero)

  • “Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of the fire.” (William Butler Yeats)

  • “When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.” (Willie Nelson)

  • “If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together … there is something you must always remember.  You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart … I’ll always be with you.” (Winnie the Pooh)
Until next time, wishing you peace and inspiration,

mar

Starting my morning with mar, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It is going to be a good day. Especially, now that I have advice from Willie Nelson.

Hi Mar...

Your mother was a wise lady and I do love all these quotes. They have substance and meaning collected over a lifetime of learning during the good and not so good times. Especially fond of this one...“Don’t let people pull you into their storm. Pull them into your peace.” (Kimberly Jones)

Hugs and blessings Maria...

Dear Rolly,

Your comments are wise. I know Mom would have loved sitting by your Fireside as much as I do - with her coffee.

Hugs and blessings to you and Angel too, mar

Dear Mareer,

Love all these wisdom snippets. I'm listening to your lovely vid as I write this. This couldn't have come at a better time. Hate couldn't exist if parents taught their children with love, respect and wisdom.

Of course it would be nice if our leaders showed similar characteristics as well. I've got to a stage where I don't even wish. To hear or read the news.

Love the same one Rolly pointed out. We should use reminders like this as a daily personal mantra.

Thanks, dear friend.
Love and hugs,
Vickster

Wishing you a peaceful week. Love and hugs to you, mareer

Probably the most daunting task I've. Ever faced has been raising my children. Sure wish I'd known you and Miss Sammie 30 years ago!

Dear Maria,

Thank you for sharing this insightful post in the footsteps of your very wise, dear Mom. Such a remarkable woman! How blessed you are to have had the gift of someone like your Mother in your life.

I agree with what Vicki said; "Hate couldn't exist if parents taught their children with love, respect and wisdom." How true! No baby is born to hate, it's not within them to do so. I think hate will only grow from a hateful, disrespectful, unloving and disloyal surrounding. It's sad to think of those innocent, sweet babies who turns into hatred and violence when they actually could turn into something different, with the help of a wise, loving, respectful parent.

Thank you for a great post and great music from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Sending my Good night's to you all the way from Sweden.
Take care, and I wish you a delightful week ahead of you.
Love and hugs,
Sannel
