marcoujor: Inspiration Through Dark Times

I wish I could say that I’m an expert in ‘knowing exactly what to say’ when learning of bad, sad or disappointing news from family, friends and colleagues / students. Alas, I am not…

As a new nurse, I quickly gained an appreciation for active listening and the therapeutic use of silence when patients share difficult information in assessments or counseling sessions.

In this first Inspiration Station post of 2018, I am extending my love and positive energy to those in my personal life arena. I recognize it’s way more difficult to find hope, inspiration and inner peace when the days are darkened with sadness, illness, death and countless other disappointments.
I have borrowed the words of some wise folks in this post… even ‘Mr. or Miss Unknown’.

And I have selected a variety of classic to ‘brand new’ music that says way more than I ever could …

“Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.” ~ Helen Keller
“Darkness comes. In the middle of it, the future looks blank. The temptation to quit is huge. Don’t. You are in good company… You will argue with yourself that there is no way forward. But with God, nothing is impossible. He has more ropes and ladders and tunnels out of pits than you can conceive. Wait. Pray without ceasing. Hope.” ~  John Piper
“When life knocks you down, roll over and look at the stars.” ~ Unknown
Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul—and sings the tunes without the words—and never stops at all.” ~ Emily Dickinson
“It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
“People are like stained=glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Whether you can directly relate or you know / love someone who is going through a difficult time, may you find comfort, inspiration and hope from your visit here today.

And thank you for taking the time to stop by… feel free to share - you will know if someone in your world needs a boost of spirits and a connection with others.

Until next time, wishing you peace and inspiration, through ‘the good times and the bad’,

mar

Music soothes the soul. I can only imagine the difficult stories you hear day to day in your professional life. I admire your students that pursue a career helping others when their own lives are fraught with challenges. The music choices are favorites. Listening now.

Good to see something by the Byrds. Otherwise none of the groups/artist were familiar. As for days that are darkened with sadness, illness, death and countless other disappointments:life comes in waves, it is good to be braced, as not to be pulled under. As always, Inspiration Station is a good depot for a breather from the waves.

So true...life does come to us in waves, dear Mike.

Thank you for adding your wise perspective to these comments - you help make Inspiration Station even more inspiring.

Hello Maria.....I know the darkness you write of and the need for comfort and inspiration during our times of sadness. It is at such moments we feel inadequate and lost, groping for any means to save our sanity. Wise words of compassion & understanding, a hand to hold & shoulder to lean on are a must. I know we can inspire someone when the need arises and you have that gift, Maria, so never worry.
So often too, a simple song can fill us with serenity & hope & help us through a broken heart, if only for a while. Every ray of sunshine helps to chase away darkness. The words & music you share with us today are just right!.....Hugs, my friend, Paula

And your comment is 'just right' too - just like you, dear Paula.

"Every ray of sunshine helps to chase away darkness" - yes indeed... :)

Big hugs back, Maria

Dear Mar,

I have too many moments of darkness since losing my beautiful son. Even now tears find their familiar place sprouted by an aching, empty, heart. If only I could hear Todd's voice once more...

As a recipient of mixed emotions ranging from anger, because he was taken from us, to gratitude for being his mother, my heart and deep love goes to all those who have lost a child.

I thank my creator for people like you, so filled with compassion and love. My hub page friends are my rock.

My heart is lifted up with your words of wisdom, the music, especially Josh Groban, and the comments left by your readers.

Bless you all!

Warmest hugs,

Audrey

Dear Mar

This is such an encouraging post, inspiring to those who need comfort as well as to those who should provide comfort. The music says it all!

What excellent advice: “When life knocks you down, roll over and look at the stars.” ~

Hugs,

Martie

Dear Maria,

I've always found it difficult knowing what to say to someone who is going through a difficult time. I'm not good at that at all. I'm usually at loss of words, searching for wise, compassionate words to say. I admire those who can say the right thing at moments like that. I'm much better in giving hugs or lending a shoulder to cry on. But that only works if you're right there in person not half across the world. So please know if I had been half across the world, you would have gotten the biggest, warmest hug filled with love and compassion. :)
Thank you for an uplifting post filled with some wonderful words of wisdom and music.
Love and hugs,
Sannel

Dear Sannel,
I promise you that your hugs and love are felt - especially when dark days come upon us unexpectedly.
And your words comfort me more than you will ever know.
Love to you and Freddie,
Maria

Hi Miss Mar...
I so love the quote.“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
Very much says it all...

Hugs as always

Dear Mareer,

It is so typical of you to give comfort and inspiration to others when going through some dark days yourself. My world is better for knowing you as I do. Thank you for being you!
