WITH THE PROMISE OF SPRING

Despite prediction of a mid-March snow shower, Spring is here in all her glory.

As we begin each new season, I'm reminded of Mom who found beauty and potential in every day of the year.

Mom loved flowers of any kind - especially the bulb flowers of Spring.

Mom died suddenly on May 7th, 2010, just days before Mother's Day and her 83rd birthday. I would have never been ready to say goodbye to my best friend. Today, I am, at least, grateful she did not suffer for even an instant.

To me, Mom was ageless. While I acknowledge a physical decline in her last few years, mostly related to Parkinson's Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis, mentally Mom was "sharp as a tack".

Despite the personal sacrifice of giving up a college education to marry and raise four children, Mom was the best Mother I have ever known. She was totally "present" for us, through every phase of our lives, "the good times and the bad". She only asked that "we do our best".

Mom always predicted that I would be a nurse or a teacher. Right again! I have done a bit of both in the course of my lifetime.

In both arenas, I have seen many children and adults who have "never quite felt good enough". I try, whenever possible, to stress the individual's strengths and positive attributes to begin with; and we all have them! I find that, when people are comfortable enough to open up, their insecurity may, in fact, stem back to their childhood, from home or school.

Consider this...

"...everyone has special talents, and it is our duty to find them and use them well."
John Templeton

As for me, I was so blessed to have the kind of Mom who wrote me these powerful words in a Journal, given to her by me in 2002:

"My hopes and dreams and wishes for you then... I wanted you to be a happy, carefree little girl with no worries beyond being sure that your teddy bear was in your bed at night. I wanted you to be exposed to any learning experience, since you always had so much curiosity and needed to know "why", your favorite word.

"And now... And now, I want you to have true peace and real happiness. You already have the foundation with a husband, pets and a home, bringing you love, companionship and contentment. I want you to slow down and do things just for yourself instead of always duty and chores."

I believe these comforting, nurturing and maternal words are universal for anyone who is in need of a Mother's love.

From a Friend - Remember Me

When Mom died, a dear friend gave me this poem which I keep close by - reading often through the seasons of each year:
Remember me when the flowers bloom
Early in the spring
Remember me on sunny days
In the fun that summer brings

Remember me in the fall
As you walk through leaves of gold
And in the wintertime - remember me
In the stories that are told

But most of all remember
Each day - right from the start
I will be forever near
For I live within your heart

(written by Judith Karen Bulock)
Mom will live forever in my heart.  She will forever be a guide and an inspiration.

Sharing a song that reminds me of the opportunities we have to make each day - the best day ever (Andy's life motto)

Cat Stevens:  Morning Has Broken
Today and every day, I wish you peace, acceptance of yourself and appreciation of the promise of each day.

Until next month, be happy and well, mar

Dear Maria,
Your sweet mom would be so proud that she is your life long inspiration. What a lovely legacy to leave for your daughter! And those Spring bulbs always evoke memories of beautiful times, don't they?
Love your pictures, and that is one of my favorite songs.
Have a beautiful Sunday, dear friend.
Love and hugs,
Vicki

Thanks, dear Vicki... you're right in that Mom left me a lifetime legacy. I love sharing her through my writings.

I had a feeling you would love those daffodils.

This is one of my favorite songs as well...

Wishing you a beautiful "Spring" week. Love and hugs back, Maria

Dear Mar, how beautiful your mother's heart! I know she is with you every second of the day. We have so much to be thankful for this first day of spring. The sun is shinning and we celebrated Palm Sunday at church this morning. It brought Christ's life closer to me before his crucifixion. Stay well and happy my friend. Love and hugs. I loved the video. Thank you for being you. Tweeted..

Maria....How sweet & lovely and perfect for the arrival of Spring when all is fresh & new! This is the ideal time for us to "remember." It's comforting to think back and know where we came from and who made it possible for us to be WHO & what we are today!
Your Mom is with you & YOU will always be with her.....I envision my parents on either side of me when I need strength or a pat on the back. We're very lucky ladies Maria and I feel blessed for knowing you my dear amiga......Love & hugs, Paula

Prof. Mahreer,

Your mama had sound advice. Somehow I can't fathom you ever being obedient enough to slow down from duties and chores, at least for very long. I imagine you'll always be working on some project that's important to you. :)

The beauty of your Mother's wisdom shines through in her daughter. She is ageless and timeless in the values she taught you and that you share so freely. A truly beautiful read on this fine spring day. Love you.

Spring does bring memories of our loved ones. Just yesterday I was telling someone about my own mother. Your mother was lovely, the epitome of Proverbs 31:10, "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." Such women are rare and precious these days. Thank you for sharing her with us so we can love her also and know the mother who nurtured you so well that you are also a woman of love ad compassion.

Dear Mar, your love for your mother keeps you strong and makes you shine, and it inspires your readers to follow miss Sammy's example by leaving a legacy of love for her children to hold on to.

I love that poem!

Autumn has just begun down here :)

Dear Martie,

I say "Spring" when you say "Autumn"... yet I couldn't feel closer to you.

I loved your recent post about daughters in FB. You do know exactly what I'm writing about.

Love you much, mar

Dear Maria,
I'm late as always but wanted to let you know that I enjoyed reading this truly wonderful post about you and your beautiful Mom. My Mom loved flowers of any kind, too and yes, especially the bulb flowers of Spring. It was high there up on her list, but most of all she loved kittens. :)
Loved reading Miss Sammy's words in the journal. She truly loved her little daughter.
Happy and sweet Easter to you and your family.
Love and hugs,
Sannel

What a lovely poem, Mar. I see why you keep it nearby. It's simply beautiful.

As I read your mother's wish for you, I couldn't help but think about how giving you are. You're always there for everyone who touches your life, no matter how remotely. Always remember to save some time for yourself. Your mom knew you well and felt the need to give you that little reminder that is okay - and necessary - to give to yourself what you give others.

Beautiful post my friend. Cat Stevens tops is off perfectly.
