marcoujor: Celebrating My Two Boys

3/14/2017

In August, 2014, my husband and I drove six hours to western Pennsylvania.

The summer of 2014 had been somber and rather dark since our beautiful ten-year-old, yellow Labrador Retriever, known as Aunt Baby, joined her brother, Alvin, over the Rainbow Bridge, on May 8th.

Imelda May: Black Tears

Since our marriage began in 1987, we have always had one (or many) four-legged canine and / or feline babies.

The ride to Summerhill was the first step in returning the light and laughter to our home.

Meeting Andy online in no way prepared us to meet him in the flesh and fur. I fell instantly in love with this gawky and huggy bundle of black fur--another Labrador Retriever with a personality like none other before him.

I believe Andy adopted me as his Momma when he leapt into my arms with total trust as we began the long drive home, including a stop for a burger and some water.

He cuddled contentedly in my lap with a full belly, seeming to instantly enjoy music, or could that be my imagination?  In any event, I am reminded of a song that feels right to share right about now.

Olivia Newton John: I Honestly Love You

Andy entered our home as if he were returning home.  I believe  Andy immediately sensed the loving presence left behind by Aunt Baby.

He also takes his role as The Protector very seriously. As such, he got off to a rocky start with his daddy, Geoff.  Looking back, I’m not sure when this sweet competition shifted in our boy’s mind. Andy is now all smiles when it comes to both parents, and everyone else he hangs out with.

In late October of 2016, Andy was introduced to his new sister, Zoey, who was soon to have her 8th birthday.
Yes, she’s also a Black Labrador Retriever, and both have completely different personalities and dispositions.

Thanksgiving was joyful in that (as if by a stroke of divinity) Andy and Zoey shifted from growling enemies to playful and protective brother and sister.

Andy is frisky and wiry, truly a ball of loving energy. He has an endearing habit of swinging around Zoey several times in the yard, as if beckoning her to come back inside. Although years younger, in his mind, he will forever be Zoey’s big brother.

Our home feels like our home again,, including paw prints and evidence of less wear-more tear from this energetic brother-sister act. The Swiffer Company has a furr-ever customer in me.

Today, this 15th of March, I am sending Happy 3rd Birthday wishes to both our boy, Andy, and his daddy, who is reported to have been born in 19-none of your business... 😉

Gentlemen, this song goes out to both of you...

The Beatles: Birthday Song

Such a special posting. I never thought I could get over the sudden loss of Nina, but Wrigley is such a lovable guy that I feel I have done a lot of healing. He is nothing like Nina, yet my response to him is the same. He loves life and adventures like crossing Stenton Avenue dragging his leash. I feared the worst, but after my husband and I had searched for him without success I found a young man whom I had never seen before standing on my front porch holding Wrigley- AKA escape artist.

Dear Barbara,
I know how much you were hurting when dear Nina left you.
I also love your smile now when you share your loving adventures with Wrigley.
I'm sure 'your heart was in your throat' when your precious escape artist went on a stroll. Thank heavens for the kindness of strangers.
Enjoy a peaceful Sunday and see you on campus!

Their ability to adjust to new situations is truly amazing and enviable. It is so rewarding to know that Andy has a friend and loving companion of his own species. They truly need company and seem to enjoy having one of their own around, particularly in times when their Moms and Dads can't be there. I'm so glad that Zoey joined your entourage and has found a new and loving family. What a lucky pup!

I so agree with you, dear Peg. One of the sweetest sights is the two of them perched in the bay window waiting for one of us to get home.

We are all lucky dogs! Love you and thanks for your sweet comments, Maria

Enjoy your evening with your loved ones. Skoal! A glass of my favorite SA wine to you and Geoff, as well as a dozen of milky bones to the Andy boy and to his precious sister.

Happy Birthday to Geoff and Andy. So hard to believe it's been 3 years since Andy brightened your lives. It warms my heart to hear how well he's adjusted to Zoey and how close he is to his Daddy, too. Love and Hugs to All,

Thanks for the birthday wishes, dear Vickster.

Your comment makes me smile. I went a little light on the Swiffering yesterday - so I know today will need some double duty time.

Have a lovely Sunday. Lots of love and hugs to you too, mareer

Prof. Mahreer,

A happy belated birthday to your fellas!

I love it that you share your family's ups, downs and celebrations with your fans and hoping the whole Jordan tribe enjoyed Chef Geoff and Andy's birthdays!

I had a flash of insight from your comment, dear Ange.

This website is like my own personal newspaper - with editorials, announcements of all kinds and even guest columns (Andy and Zoey demanded I include this...)

Thanks for being part of the family. Of course, there's still some cake with coffee... :)

Mar,

YES!!! :)

That's exactly what it is, how it works and why I love it!

It's not you working for some other company, earning percentages of pennies while you earn big revenue for them.

It's your brand--your platform--your business--your work.

It's both personal and professional and it's awesome. :)
