"Hope is a quality that will always remain with us. With hope we always look forward to tomorrow. With advancing age, you see more easily what is important in life--your family, friends, faith and beliefs.

"Yesteryear's desires and wishes have fallen by the wayside. It's no longer important that we never reached the top of the mountain or amassed that fortune. We found peace and contentment along the way."

Mom (Miss Sammie)

Peace and contentment grow more important to me by the day.

I picked up my virtual pen after Mom’s death in May, 2010. The wisdom, captured in her journals, continues to guide me, both in word and the practice of life.

In the Fall of  2012, I dedicated Kylie’s Blossoms to my great-niece, Kylie Samantha, in memory of her great-grandmother, Miss Sammie.

In case you’re not familiar with the story, here is a snippet from the Introduction:

Kylie learned to love nature by taking walks with her parents. They taught her how to be safe in the forest nearby her home. Now Kylie is old enough to explore on her own. She will take Teddy as her companion.

Momma is so wise. She taught Kylie that you can learn a life lesson from every new friend you meet.

In the Spring of 2016, two more versions of Kylie’s Blossoms were published: Flores de Kylie (translated in Spanish) and Kylie se Blomme (translated in Afrikaans).

In my notes on the back covers, written both in English and Spanish (thanks to Paula Jamison-Michalek) and Afrikaans (thanks to Martie Coetser Pozyn), I encourage readers of all ages to…

Keep reading your whole life through! It will take your mind to places you’ve never dreamed about.

I’m grateful to my author, illustrator and friend, Sannel Larson, for many reasons. Here are two that immediately come to mind.

  • Sannel is helping spread Kylie’s journey even further in the world by helping with a Swedish translation of Kylie’s Blossoms. More to come on this exciting addition.
  • Sannel, publishing three coloring books herself (so far!), has inspired me to do the same with Kylie’s Blossoms, thanks to the talents of illustrator, publisher and friend, Mike Friedman (of Mockingbird Books Publication).
Kylie’s Blossoms Coloring Book and Journal provides opportunities for kids of all ages to express artistic creativity (in or out of the lines)  by bringing these beautiful illustrations to life with your choice of pencils, markers, crayons.

If thoughts or feelings emerge as you begin to hear yourself think, there are journal pages that focus on each of the twelve life lessons that Kylie and Teddy discover, including positive energy, trust, dignity and more.

Who knows? One day your children may be as comforted by your journal as I am by Mom’s. There’s no time like now to start sharing your wisdom with those you love.

Indeed, dear Mike - hope you are 'up' on illustrating prom dresses and such... ;)

The Kylie series would not be possible without your talents and dedication - I am forever grateful to you.

The pleasure is all mine. Even though I sometimes pull my hair out (metaphorically) trying to figure out how to accomplish the task.

I am so glad Kylie's Blossoms is now also available in a coloring book. Since the beginning I thought she should be a coloring book. May she find her way to many Christmas trees all over the world.

Congratulations, Maria and Mike :)

Martie
