marcoujor: Musical Intermission - "D"

"Stop holding on to what hurts and start making room for what feels good. You are not what happened to you in the past. You are now, you are this moment. What will you do with it? Who will you choose to become?" -- Robert Tew

Does this quotation apply at all to you?

Over this week, I've needed to remind myself that a traumatic incident in my life is history - that things are different today, in the best of ways.

Family and close friends have been faithful in their love and support of me. With some distance from the recent negativity, I am able to acknowledge the power I have over my own thoughts and reactions.

Musical Intermission:

Once again, music has been healing for me. Hoping this week's selections will bring back a positive memory for you or instill an interest in learning more about one of the selected artists.

Something Old:

I think the title of this song will cause an instant smile in my family - a "blast from the past", if you will...
Something New:

This is a "hot off the press" song from an artist I've been loving since the 1980s. Elvis Costello and the Imposters have a timeless sound. The influence of Burt Bacharach makes this album, called "Look Now" an instant favorite.

Something Borrowed:

Your ears are not deceiving you, KSA...! There really is one Steely Dan song I enjoy listening to... :)
Something Blue:

Charles Bradley released his first album when he was 62-years young. Sadly he died of cancer in September, 2017 leaving behind some unforgettable songs. RIP "Screaming Eagle of Soul".

Good morning mar - Now, this moment, it is a chilly 64 degrees. Can it be last July about mid 80's? Listening to the musical choices now. Someone must have a past they don't wish to leave behind them. Let me know if you happen to run into them.

The 60s sound pretty good on this chilly PA morning, dear Mike.

Wishing you a peaceful day. Hugs, mar

Listening to Steely Dan and remembering different times when I couldn't see my way out. But I made it. I appreciate the musical help that got me past those days. Loving my life now.
Glad for your inspiration about moving past bad times. You are amazing in every way. Love you. Peg

Good morning Maria, I hope all is well with you. Some of the music was a bit of blast from the past, but that is my favorite music. Maybe that happens with age?? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Big hug for you, Pam

I agree that older music is some of the best around, dear Pam.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful and blessed Thanksgiving as well.

Hi there Miss Maria......As always, your music choices are the best. I do like Tommy Roe and who DOESN'T love Steely Dan??! As for music being a healing force, I agree completely. As I get older, I find I'm into soft, sweet tunes that create a tranquil atmosphere. (Just the stuff that drives my grandchildren nuts!!) LOL Well now, that generation gap will always be alive and well.
Yes, girlfriend.....what was, is done and in the past. Going forward and upward is the direction on which we need to focus. The me I am today, may be fond of the me I was yesterday, but we don't often "hang-out." Yesterday me served her purpose and has been replaced in the interest of progress. Love you...Huge hugs! Paula/Effer

Good morning, Paula,
So nice to see you - your perspective is most appreciated.
My inclusion of Steely Dan is a nod to one of my college pals - we have much in common (music, not so much!)
Love and hugs to you too, Maria

We are kindred spirits, LAW.
I've loved Elvis Costello ever since my college days.
Now Steely Dan was my college roommate's fav band - mine, not at all...so this is a nod to my buddy. ;)

You, my friend, are a musical soul. It has the power to evoke such emotion. Such love. Such power.
As I was reading, I thought that perhaps you would be *perfect* at musical meditations. I can just see you doing well with that, actually. :)
In any case, I hope you're having a great week. Sending you hugs and wishes for lots of beautiful music to come your way...presently. :)

Hi dear Cynthia,
Musical meditations sound like my cup of tea - I'll need to look into that for sure.
Thanks for your visit and positivity. Love you, Maria

Funny you should have a Steely Dan song posted.. my old boss would always play Steely Dan songs (as he went to college with the singer or one of the band members.) The juxtaposition of the music with the state hospital setting was memorable to say the least!

Very cool, Elizabeth - I didn't realize that you had worked at the state hospital.

Have a peaceful day and thanks for your visit.

Mar, I haven't heard "Dizzy" in forever! Boy, that really brought back memories!

I've always liked Steely Dan but had no idea the lead singer has such bad teeth. Hmmm.

I also love the bluesy/jazzy tune you chose by Charles Bradley. It's a shame he had such a short career.

Dear Mar, the music does have healing qualities. Thank God for music... and supportive friends.

Re Robert's quote: Some days reality simply doesn't allow us to feel good. (Please highlight 'some days'.) Thank heavens for all the other days.

I love this! And Steely Dan is awesome, my dear friend. "In the mornin...." Music has so many benefits...from calming our moods to bringing inspiration I've heard that patients in ICU can be helped by listening to their favorite music. I'd be lost without it; so would we all. Thank you, Maria, for elevating my day. Hugs. :-)
