marcoujor: Musical Intermission - "F"

Picture
When I think of my current age, a bottle of Heinz ketchup comes to mind - yikes...!

The good news is that I rarely think about my age. The better news is that I celebrate every day that I wake up ... :)

I'm reminded of a song I grew up with - one of Mom's favorites. Here are the lyrics that ring true for me:

Oh well I guess I'm doin' fine
It's been so long now and it seems that
It was only yesterday
Mmm, ain't it funny how time slips away.

This week I'm featuring the same "old, new, borrowed and blue" song - let me know which rendition you prefer. I'm leaving out some other covers as I remain true to the theme of this Musical Intermission.

Something Old:

Willie Nelson wrote this iconic song in 1961 (a special year for me!) - performed by many of the greats over the years...
Something New:

Pretty cool to hear Willie's son, Lukas, give us his version...! This young man's voice gives me the chills in the best of ways.
Something Borrowed:

A woman's touch on this song ... if you haven't heard of Dorothy Moore, give her a listen. You'll be ever so glad you did!
Something Blue:

BB King is the "King of the Blues" to me - let's let him finish up this set for us... :)

Until next "G" - week, be peaceful and happy, mar

Gee mar, Now, I'm an emotional wreck, but thanks. I love them all!
But I've gotta go with the original (though Lukas Nelson version is exciting to hear, and beautiful guitar). Good work lady, love your Wednesday's posts, Verlie

Love this song and the different versions of it. Of course, my favorite would be Willie's version. Yes, it is funny how time slips away. Time is really flying by faster every year. Hope that your birthday was a blast and that your celebration continues every day of the year. Love you.

Maria.....Oh my goodness, girlfriend. Love the songs.....very moving. Although memories are mostly pleasurable, often they bring up the sense of loss that the passing of time creates. I try to make certain my particular mood and frame of mind at any given moment, is strong enough to take that stroll down memory lane. I've spent so much of my life and my energies, pushing myself to go forward, in spite of an occasional heavy heart, I dare not tempt myself by focusing on how "time" has truly slipped away.
Love Willie, Lucas & BB...and thanks for the intro to Ms. Moore. And of course, I love you. Again, I wish you & yours a wonderful Holiday Season. Keep smiling, loving, singing and dancing! Paula/Effer

Hi Mar... First off Happy Birthday and all that great stuff. Love the sound of Willy, always have. He came north years ago and I was in charge of his security while he visited. Very interesting man and a man with such a heartwarming love of his craft and life...

Hugs as always... Rolly

I hope you had a wonderful, wonderful birthday, sweet Mar. Here's to another year around the sun!! I love your musical selection. You have such a knack for selecting songs! You could be a DJ! Hehe.
I love listening to music like BB King when I'm painting or working on artwork. Well that and instrumental spiritual music, too. Hehe. Sending you big birthday hugs and I hope you have a great birthday week. You deserve that and more!

Dear Maria,
Love your " Funny how time slips away" musical selections this week. However, I must say that I enjoyed "King of the Blues" version the best.
I hope you had a wonderful birthday together with Geoff and Andy.

Hi Birthday Girl,

I love all versions of "Funny how time slips away". Lukas Nelson has a beautiful voice and sounds just like his dad.

Mar, I believe you have had an awesome birthday. It is actually sad how time slips away. When we look again, our time on earth is over. You have the right attitude - celebrating every day you have the privilege to live.

We are still amazed at my son-in-law's miraculous survival and recovery. Why some people don't survive a merest fall, while others survive a serious assault, is a question with no logical answer. Thanks again for all the support we have received from you and all our online friends.

Hugs,

Martie

Dear Martie,
I am so grateful that your SIL is healing so well - I sure don't understand these things but am always grateful when they occur.
I did have a wonderful birthday - love you and am so grateful you are in my life.
I love Lukas' sound - subtly different than his Dad's but talent definitely runs in the Nelson family.
Hope you are having a peaceful week. Hugs, mar

Mar, I'm so sorry I missed your birthday. Go ahead and kick me now! :-)

I love this set. Lukas sounds so much like his dad it's almost eerie. At least he'll carry on the legacy in more ways than one.

Yeah, time sure is slipping away. How is it already almost December? Lordy Goshen, time sure does fly.

Have a great weekend, my friend. I hope your birthday was absolutely stupendous!

Love,
Sha

Dear Sha,
This is a "no kick" zone. Your birthday wishes are much appreciated, as is your friendship to me.
Glad to have another "Lukas" fan here and to know that country music lives on.
Lots of love and hugs too, mar
