marcoujor: Musical Intermission - "N"

Happy or sad, energetic or tired, just sit in the person you happen to be at the moment." (Barbara Ann Kipfer)

This week has felt like a tilt-a-whirl on overdrive with both happy and sad happenings. Even the weather has been mercurial with temperatures over the weekend ranging from single digits to the 50s.

Remaining flexible with unexpected life changes while honoring my feelings are ongoing challenges for me. The quote I started off with reminds me of wise words Mom would say to me - when I needed to hear it the most:

  • "Your body tells you when it's time to slow down."  (Actually my body uses a bull horn to let me know...!)

"Don't burn the candle at both ends." (This is why 9:00PM is a late night for me...!)

Should this wisdom be of any help to you at any time, I know Mom would / may have freely shared with you as well.

As has been the NORM, I will NOW NAVIGATE to four NUMBERS starting with the letter "N", NATURALLY ...

Something Old:

I sure didn't know what I was singing at six years of age - this song and so many more. Today on the "sweet" scale, I'd give this one a "10" ... :)

Something New:

Andrew Hozier-Byrne is known in the music world as Hozier. The song I'm sharing with you is an unforgettable and commanding collaboration with Mavis Staples.

I had never seen the video until getting this post ready - what a message about our global universality, as we listen together.

I'm hoping Hozier is around for a long time to come - perhaps my favorite new artist...?!
Something Borrowed:

This YouTube of Chuck Mangione is his entire Love Notes album. In keeping with the theme, I bring your attention to the second song, NO Problem.

Come back when you can, put your feet up and listen to Chuck's sultry and smooth sounds.  Why ... because it Feels So Good (but that's another song!)

Side A (01) Steppin' Out: 0:00 (02) No Problem: 6:14 Side B (03) Memories of Scirocco: 19:11 (04) To the 80's: 27:11 (05) Love Note: 32:22.
Something Blue:

Shemika Copeland has a power house of a voice that immediately drew me in. This blues series wouldn't be complete without her.

ShoutOuts

Until next week, wishing you peace, warmth and a song in your heart, mar

Hello and happy Wednesday, Mar. Thanks for the musical treat and for introducing me to new artists and some very familiar and talented favorites. Your choice of "Never My Love" was raging when I was in high school and at my most impressionable. Loved it then and even more so now. Love you, too.

Ah, I love the Association song. Does that bring back memories...
And your Mom's wise words are always wonderful to hear. Hope things smooth out there, the winter has been a roller coaster here too. Thank you Maria for being here on winter Wednesday mornings. Always a treat!

Happy Wednesday Maria, I love your song choices for today. Hozier has such a dynamic voice. Each song was special in its own way.

I hope your week calms down and you get to a wonderful weekend without any more problems. Hugs, Pam

Good morning mar - Wow, the Association brings back memories. I will take Peg's word for just how long ago those memories were made. Your Mom's advice has always been sound. Just this week my body yelled at me, "We are NOT doing that." And we didn't. Thanks for the music.

Again, I love the variety of musical selections that you share - I always learn about new musicians when I come here. :)

I understand about finding that balance. I know that there were some in my recent coaching group who were able to create content much faster than I could. But I am working, commuting, and trying to work on my blog and whew! When I work at the school, I don't do much for my website. I need that balance :) And 9:00 is getting late for me, too, especially Tuesdays - Thursdays. Hehe.

Honor that balance. Honor the need to say, "I need rest." It will serve you well. Your body will respect you and work better when you listen to what it needs.

Sending you the biggest hugs and a wishes for a wonderful week, sweet friend. You are incredible!

I'm supposed to be receiving notification of your new posts via email, but I never do. I see reminders on FB. I've been missing this series of yours. What a great idea. A marriage of music and life!

You know, when I was a teen, I had a casette tape or a CD by Kathy Troccoli that had "Never My Love" on it. It was the first time I'd ever heard that song. Years later, I eventually heard other versions and recognized that she'd done a cover version. There's definitely a distinct difference between her version and the one you posted. Hers is more contemporary or easy listening style. Maybe a difference in decades. Anyway, that was interesting.

Great to see you, Shannon. It's never too late to visit - the music is always on.

I'll have to check out Kathy Troccoli's cover - I'm not familiar with it.

Take care and have a good day!

Girlfriend......Wow, do I hear Barbara Ann loud & clear! If you don't mind, honey, I will utilize this time and space to sit in my misery & frustration.....Frigid cold temps here 3 days in a row. My boiler blew a couple of integral parts~~my wonderful sons to the rescue~~& while they were working on that, a pipe burst under the deck and my water had to be shut off. Status: House at 40 degrees....no water. Are we having fun yet? NO? Well how about if a ceiling tile in the downstairs bathroom, finally crumbles & falls to the floor, ceiling light fixture & all?
Memories of the movie "Money Pit," with Tom Hanks & Shelly Long, came to mind! The movie was hilarious. Somehow this isn't quite as funny? But this will not get me down.......yet. OK everyone, all together now........."Awwww Poor Effer!" Yes, thank you. Can you hear me scream??!! Love you! I appreciate the great music and inspirational words!!....

Oh poor Effer, indeed ... girlfriend, I am sorry that your home is giving you so many challenges in this winter season. So happy to hear your sons are there for you. Hoping your heat is back to some "cozier" degrees too.

I have the fireplace going - with a hot beverage of your choice. And whining is allowed and understandable.

Take good care and try to keep that wonderful sense of humor over these trying days. Love and hugs, Maria

Finally slowed down myself. Had my hip done last week and was very optimistic about the recovery time. I think the problem is really my foot. That and I gained an inch. Oh well, I’ll get used to being taller. The music helped soothe my savage breast. I can’t wait to get out of the house. Maybe by Spring. Love

Nice to see you here, Mary.

Knowing how hard slowing down is for you / us, I am proud of your pause for self care. Spring is around the corner.

Wishing you the best in these next weeks of healing - the music is always on so stop by any time.

Dear Mar

So true: "Your body tells you when it's time to slow down." A year ago my bedtime was past midnight. Nowadays I can hardly make it until 10:00 PM. 2-3 hours less for online activities! Not sure if ageing or a too-heavy work load is the true cause of my fatigue.

The N's uplifted my spirit.

Hugs,

Martie

Dear Sista,

You have every good reason for an early bedtime with all you juggle - including job duties that make my head spin.

So pleased that these musical choices uplifted you ... sending you love, hugs and positive energy, mar

Dear Mareer,

I just want to tell you how this N week has given me such a feeling of belonging in your world! Folks like Paula, awww Paula (!) and Martie ( dang, I know all about that stuff) and even muscular Mike are all feeling NOT ON this week, and I’m happy to slip into yet another week of my own winter doldrums, overwork, underpaid and Nooo! with you all.
Yep, Dear M, thank goodness you’re here and holding us together.
How about we all, including you, take a big breath? Nah, that didn’t work either!
But we’re all here together, your music inspires, and soon the days will be longer. Thank you for the music, as ABBA would say, and keep it coming girl.

mega hugs,
Vicki
