marcoujor: Musical Intermission - "Q"

"The only way to win with a toxic person is not to play. Leave their playground." -- Author Unknown

I happened upon this quotation recently. Miss (or Mister) "Unknown" makes an excellent point, don't you think?

Fortunately for me, my life does not currently include anyone I would consider toxic. That hasn't always been the case. As such, I work hard to keep my world toxin-free in the interpersonal department.

I've learned to recognize signs of toxicity almost instantly.

However, during times of uncertainty, my inner circle of family and friends are QUICK to weigh in. Life doesn't have to feel like QUICKSAND. These toxic folks need to QUIT PLAYING GAMES with my (our) heart(s). Signing off so you can listen to these tunes with no further qualms, QUEEN OF PEACE, aka mar

Something Old:

In my next life, I'd love to be a Vandella. As a little girl no one could convince me otherwise ... ;)
Something New:

Florence + The Machine got into my head in 2011, a time when I needed to get out of my head. This is the same year I began to write beyond my journals.

Seven Devils was actually the song that inspired a collection of diametrically opposed poetry called Seven.

Lead singer Florence Welch can sing the phone book with her impactful voice - "Queen of Peace" is a number that seems to fit the bill this week.
Something Borrowed:

I'm secure enough with you all to admit - I love the soulful tunes of boy bands like Backstreet Boys.

I'll wager some of you will even agree after (re)listening to this quintessential melody ... :)

Something Blue:

Jill Scott hails from Philadelphia - raised by her mother and grandmother. Inspired by poetry as a young girl, her music is bluesy, gritty and real.

Take a listen to this quirky and less than two minutes "Quick" song by this sassy singer.

Dear Mareer,

As usual, I'm struck by the variety in your music selections. Are you planning to be a DJ when you grow up?
Out of this selection, i like Vandella the best. Q must have been a challenge for you. I've been trying to think of some myself, but no!
Always fascinating to share in your musical library like this.
Oh, and thanks for the shoutout!
Love and hugs,
Vickster.

Dear Vickster,

Thanks for believing that I might grow up one day (LOL). I would absolutely love to be a DJ...You know me well.

Glad you enjoyed my "Q" songs. They were both a challenge and a pleasure to select.

Love you, mareer

Hello QUEEN OF PEACE, aka mar, Another interesting message this Wednesday from mar's desk. Somehow I can picture you with a hair brush 'microphone' singing with The Vandellas.

"The only way to win with a toxic person is not to play. Leave their playground." -- Author Unknown I can see how this could work, and feel the silence.

Happy Wednesday.

Thanks for your visit, Mike. I admit I was a ham with my hairbrush microphone as a kid.

I believe, as the saying goes, that silence is golden.

Happy Wednesday to you too. Hugs, mar

Good advice on toxic people whose main job seems to bring us down. Been there, too. Just walk away, fast, and don't look back.
Listening to this great choice of music, right now, The Backstreet Boys - Wow, I'd forgotten about this one. Singing along with my hairbrush microphone. Hugs

Dear Peg,

I think we would both be fabulous Vandellas, along with our hairbrush microphones.

Thanks for hanging out with me and my music. Love you and hugs, Maria

Dear Mar

It is always a pleasure to listen to your choice of music. Thank you so much for this series.

Working with lessors and tenants one is compelled to handle a lot of toxic individuals. Demanding only written communication forces them to 'play' in my professional playground instead of in theirs.

Hugs,

Martie

Take good care of yourself and never forget how wise you are. I truly respect you.

So glad that, for whatever reason, you began to write outside of your journals. Your writings encourage peace.

I remember that Backstreet Boys song quite well. My sister had a thing for them and the N'SYNC band. I like that "Quick" song you shared. It's quite catchy and makes me want to dance.

Hi Shannon,
My mother was / continues to be my inspiration for writing.
Thank you for your feedback - appreciated.
Glad you found Jill Scott as funky as I do.

Your musical selections always make me smile. :) And the Backstreet Boys. Hehe. You know, I'll admit I was never a big fan, but listening here today brought me back to when I was in 8th grade and my younger cousin LOVED them. She bought their sweatshirts, CDs, and other items with religious fervor. I looked at her one day and said, "There will come a day when this love you have will die down. And it'll be okay." Haha. She looked at me as if I needed to be committed to the insane asylum. And wouldn't you know...a few months later she was over it. I only share because it's so funny how a song can evoke a memory - a distant one that doesn't seem that long ago, but...eek! It was probably about 25 years ago! Egads...when you can start counting your memories in terms of decades, you wonder, "how does it all go by so fast?" lol. Lovely selections, my friend. Sending you hugs!

Dear Cynthia,
Thanks for sharing this memory of your cousin - seems like folks are on either end of the spectrum about the BSB... :)
And yes, time is passing at lightening speed for sure.
Have a wonderful weekend. Love, Maria

Wow. This may be my favorite in terms of being familiar with & loving all the tunes & artists!! I know I had every "45" of Martha & the Vandella's from the '60's. knew every word to "Quicksand", still to this day. Oh how I adore those Oldies! One of these days, I suppose I should move out of the '60's......but I'm truly one of those freaks stuck in that era.....at least my heart is. Jill Scott is looking amazing with her new slim-trim body! I loved her in that Tyler Perry movie (what the hell was the name?) about the married couples who all went on vacation together. (Her hubby was a real douchebag....LOL) I felt I wanted to protect her, but she stuck it up his ugly butt in the end!! Alright, girlfriend! U GO!
And the Back Street Boys? Love me some of those young little stud muffins. (Not THAT way, Maria! I ain't no damned spooky ole lady) LOL....Hey, this "Q" collection is top-notch QUALITY!!
and you're Quite Qute!!...........Paula

Dear Paula,

The movie is "Why Did I Get Married Too?" - I love the Madea movies. Another is due to come out this Spring ... Halleluyer... ;)

I absolutely knew you love the BSB as much as I do. Happy you enjoyed this week's tunes.

Love and hugs, Maria
