![]() "With every act of self-care your authentic self gets stronger, and the critical, fearful mind gets weaker. Every act of self-care is a powerful declaration: I am on my side. Each day I am more and more on my own side." -- Susan Weiss Berry I have a tendency to get immersed in the challenge of the day. Of course challenges can extend way longer than a day. During these times, self-care is my mechanism for life balance - even sanity. I'm reminded that sleep is a gift that should never be taken lightly. I appreciate my fur therapist, Andy - taking full advantage of his unconditional love. I've also decided to continue sharing my musical favorites long after this alphabetical musical intermission has concluded. Along with some encouraging feedback by my readers, I am energized and joyful when working on these "mini-concerts". Friends and readers, please share your thoughts of songs, artists or theme possibilities with me as I continue to build my virtual jukebox. Today I share some spectacular "S"- songs: Something Old: Last week's song from Kitty Wells begged to Release Me, while this week Tammy Wynette urges us to Stand By Your Man. I am forever grateful to my Mom for giving me her love of these country classics. I feel her approval as she listens from her heavenly perch. Something New: Hot off the Oscars' press, Shallow is the winner of 2019 Best Original song. I fell in love with this song when the 2018 adaptation of "A Star Is Born" hit the theaters. Stop everything you're doing, close your eyes and enjoy the reverie of the unexpectedly sultry duo of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Something Borrowed: I'm ever grateful to my friend, Verlie, for generously sharing some of her favorite musical artists with me. The music of Gary B.B. Coleman is borrowed, blue and ever so easy on the ear. Hope you all think so too. Something Blue: Etta James has an impressive list of awards and honors - including being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (in 1993), the Blues Hall of Fame (in 2001), and the Grammy Hall of Fame (in both 1999 and 2008). Stormy Weather is my personal favorite of a long list of classics from this Goddess of the Blues. ShoutOutsUntil next week, wishing you peace and a song in your heart, mar

Stormy Weather, what a great tune! And her sultry, soulful rendition is smooth and soothing. I haven't seen "A Star is Born" yet. We'll likely wait until it comes out on video.

Good morning Maria, I agree caring for yourself is so important, and you will be happier. I really loved your music choices. I have always been a fan of Etta James. I don't remember hearing Gary B B Coleman before, but I liked his singing and the background music was great.

Hi Mar, These music pics are sensational, and sensual. Love the Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga duet, and Tammy Wynette, wow! I don't think I appreciated her back in the day, what a sweetheart. I don't remember sending you the Gary BB Coleman, just passing on tunes a friend has been sharing with me, but yes, great blues guitar. Your message on self-care is right on. And so true. See ya next Wednesday. Thanks so much for keeping the music spinning.

Lovely selections as always. And sleep - so good. It's the number one stress reducer. Hehe. For some reason, I thought of the song, Sade, and Sinead O'Connor. And there are other S's I know I'm not thinking of lol. I'll letcha know if I think of others. Wishing you a wonderful week, friend. Sending you the biggest, squishiest hugs. xo

Have I mentioned that one of the things I like about you is that we share a love of music and discovering new music? I'm glad that you shared "Shallow" here because that's one I've been hearing quite a bit of hype about but hadn't heard yet for myself. Apparently, I need to see that movie.

Maria....Always happy to experience your Musical Alphabet count-down. I found myself recalling so many Sentimental, Soothing & Spectacular, "S" songs, that we've all loved through the years.

Thanks for starting off my day with these musical selections. I have not yet seen the movie, A Star is Born, but did enjoy listening to the song titled Shallow. Your advice about caring for ourselves are words of wisdom. Take care, and here is a virtual hug to you this morning.
