"When people are laughing, they're generally not killing each other." -- Alan Alda

With my current teaching schedule, I get to work with students in various stages of the program - from sophomores to seniors. It is truly joyful to witness these nursing butterflies emerge from cocoons of anxiety aka nursing school.

A colleague recently introduced me to the Nurse Blake video series. Oh my goodness ... this guy presents the reality of the profession while administering a steady dose of belly laughs.

Whether you are a nurse, a nursing student or someone who enjoys hearty laughter ... I am sharing one of Nurse Blake's videos. I will be stopping back to check out even more PRN (as needed to you non-nurses)!

And, music lovers, some "U"-songs for your listening pleasure...

Something Old

This song is timeless ... almost 55-years young.
Something New

I'll be curious to see future work from this 'up and coming' lady with a cool name (Jade Bird) and a quirky sound. I'm loving her so far... :)

Something Borrowed

"Under The Milky Way" is a hauntingly beautiful song by a group that I was first introduced to back in 1988 -  check this out.
Something Blue:

It's hard to believe that I have gotten all the way  to the "U"-songs without including Aretha Franklin's magical voice - so, here you go... :)

Dear Mareer,

It’s 7 am as I write this, with Aretha's lovely voice accompanying my words to you. Lovely. Just realized I’ve got dependent upon your DJ selections early in the morning, and there’s a slight feeling of dread. What will I do once you get to "Z"?
Say it isn’t so!
Love your whiny nurse, but not sure I’d want him around me too long. Get a grip on life, you silly thing!
I’ve always said you have patience. Now I know it.
Love and hugs,
Vickster

Dear Vickster,

No worries - I will keep the music going after we complete the alphabet in this musical intermission.

I suspect Nurse Blake is a great actor, as his profile is really quite impressive.

Have a peaceful day. Love and hugs, mareer

Love the music selections for U day. Unchained Melody has been a long-time favorite - before "Ghost" came out but even more so afterward. Love me some Patrick Swayze. Miss him, too.
That nurse student, um, well, he's really something. Not sure what. I'm reminded of Cher in "Moonstruck" and I can see her saying, "Snap out of it."
Happy Wednesday. Hugs. Peg

I share your love of Unchained Melody, "Ghost: and Patrick Swayze as well, dear Peg.

That is a perfect response to Nurse Blake's meltdown.

Have a lovely day. Hugs to you too, Maria

Hi Maria, The nursing video was something! Fo!rtunately I didn't know anyone like that when I was in nursing school

I have loved hearing the Righteous Brother since i was a kid. Of course, Aretha is fabulous. The Church was new to me and I enoyed Jade also.

I hope you are having a good week, and it sounds like your teaching is going well. I am sure you are a great teacher.
Love Pam :-)

Thanks for listening to the "U"-tunes and watching Nurse Blake's dramatics with me, dear Pam - much appreciated.

I do love my teaching - not many student meltdowns thankfully.

Love and hugs, Maria

OMG....ROTFLMAO.........I haven't laughed this hard since.........Well, since yesterday (because I insist upon laughter in daily doses!) This guy is hilarious. The funniest part is that there's always a strong element of "reality/truth" within every humorous stint. I believe this young nursing student actually does feel stressed!! He also proves the best way to deal with stress is through humor and laughter! I rest my case!
Thanks for sharing this! Love ya, Paula

I'm LMAO right along with you, dear Paula. Like you, I have to build some laughter and silliness into each day - making those meltdowns a little easier to handle.

Sending you love and hugs, Maria

Fantastic collections. Every time I see the Righteous Brothers, it brings back so many memories. When I turned 9, I got a stereo for my birthday. I got a couple CDs and a couple "Oldies But Goodies" tapes. I listened to "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin" over and over again by my Righteous Brother friends. And then when the movie "Ghost" came out a year later, the "Unchained Melody" became synonymous with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore...and I'll forever associate the Righteous Brothers with 5th grade and Ghost. Hehe. It's funny how music has the power to evoke such memories. Aretha Franklin...R-E-S-P-E-C-T is the first thing I think of...and Forrest Gump. Hehe. Now, the "Under the Milky Way" song I'm not as familiar with. Thank you for sharing. Now I will forever-associate it with your site here. Hehe.

Dear Mar

How wonderful to start this day laughing. I need some more of Nurse Blake's videos!

Unchanged Melody is a beautiful evergreen song, Love it! The rest of the songs are 'new' to me, and I am eager to let them grow on me.

Looking forward to the 'V's'

Hugs,

Martie

Dear Martie,
I am not surprised you enjoyed the humor of Nurse Blake - I keep checking out his videos - always what the MD ordered!
What a neat concept... letting new music "grow on you". I find the same to be true with most new artists I stumble upon.
Hope you are having a good week. Love you, mar

Maria,

Laughs are needed today. My mom called to tell me that my dad is having open heart surgery first thing tomorrow morning. His dad passed away from complications after surgery. I remember seeing him in the hospital after surgery and he seemed "fine" to my young self. And then he was just gone.

Enough of that bring me down, though. I shouldn't worry until I have to, at least that's what I'm telling myself. On the subjects of laughs, I used to make it a point to make my children laugh at least once a day when they were younger. Helped us all, I think. Plus, who doesn't feel better when hearing the sound of a young child's laughter? Although, now I'm afraid my daughter has picked up some of my quirky sense of humor. When you mix that were her sarcasm. . .sigh....sometimes I don't know whether to laugh or to feel an urge to slap the sass out of her. When her brother asked me if he could make fun of her back after she'd smarted off something to him, she simply asked, "what's wrong with my back?" He didn't find the least bit of humor in the fact that I laughed at her joke.

Oh, by the way, my friend in Houston is currently enjoying your book. She said she's connecting to the A - Z poetry. Thanks again!

Hi Shannon,
My thoughts go out to your dad - hoping he is recovering as expected after surgery.
Your story about your kids is sweet - a sense of humor is a true gift.
I'm so happy your friend is finding value in my book - thanks for letting me know.
