marcoujor: Musical Intermission - "X"

Picture

"Some people could be given an entire field of roses and only see the thorns in it. Others could be given a single weed and only see the wildflower in it. Perception is a key component to gratitude. And gratitude is a key component to joy." -- Amy Weatherly

This quotation spoke to me in this "X"-week of my musical intermission.

I've been known to frame my musings with the alphabet. The letter "X" is usually one of the last concepts I develop.

Yet time after time, I find the power, beauty and challenge in this errant character called "X" -with your indulgence, "eX".  Hoping this series is no eXception  :)

Something Old:

The Soul Survivors arrived on the scene for me at the age of six - the eXpressway to my grade school ...!

To my delight, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, aka The Blues Brothers, put their magic on this classic in 1980.
Something New:

Elle King has been making music since 1998 - a sassy blend of pop, rock, blues and soul.

This song from 2014 'kinda' fit the "X"-theme. It also happens to be my favorite from Elle ... so here you go!

 Something Borrowed:

Dire Straits hailed from London with roots all the way back to 1977.

The voice behind one of my all-time favorite rock bands is Mark Knopfler. Pour yourself a cup of coffee - with a side of
"X"presso Love.
Something Blue:

"X"cellent Adventure was a new song to me by Al Jarreau - not at all the sound I would have expected but certainly showing off his range and sense of fun.

Love what you did here and, of course, your musical selections. I always get a kick out of what you come up with. And ya know, I'm really liking the Elle King video. I've heard her music, but it's fun seeing the lyrics and following along.
I also hope you have a wonderful week, dear friend. May your days be musical and your senses filled with lyricism and happy notes. Hehe.

That quote really sums up the difference between optimists and pessimists. Love it and Love this release and your capture of the "X" songs like "Expressway to Your Heart." Wow, does that bring back fond memories of driving to high school in my big old Chevrolet in South Florida traffic. Will be listening to the other selections shortly. Cheers for the roses! Love and hugs.

Hi dear Mareer,

this X shows your true willingness to take on a challenge! Wow, seems like yesterday you started "A" musical, and now you're almost at the end of the alphabet.

Thanks for the weekly entertainment!

Dear Mar

What a surprise! I had some sleepless nights on your behalf about this X intermission.

This is truly eXtraordinary eXcellent. EXactly what we could have eXpected from a lady who always walks the eXtra mile. You are, indeed, an eXpert when it comes to intellectual challenges.

Your quote of the week is just what I needed, as it is quite difficult to stay positive in my neck of the woods, especially when you keep up with the news of the day.

Hugs,
Martie

Maria my Xtremely Xcellent Friend....I like Al Jarreau. He's Xtra cool with his soulful music. You're getting closer to the end of the alphabet, girlfriend!
I agree. "Perception" is the most important thing. Learn to see the good...look on the brighter side and appreciate whatever beauty is displayed.
You know honey.....the problem is, from what I can see, most women look at their "X" and ask themselves, "Y?".....LOL!
I wonder why we send people kisses by writing XXXXX? What's the symbol for hugs?? Cause that's what I'm sending you!
Love ya girlfriend...Paula

Good morning Mar
Thank you for great reminders of songs and the quote which make me contemplate a bit deeper. Reminds me as I looked over my green grass which now has straw over it . I see the potential for new veggies to be planted under as it is mulched down ... someone may look and see an area that no longer has green grass. Lol Thank you for the shout out You are truly
“xspecially “ wonderful!
Love and hugs
Kimmie
