marcoujor: Thanksgiving Leftovers

On the heels of last week's post on gratitude, I was pondering my priorities ~ what matters in my life.

Although I recorded this in my journal, I wanted to share my food for thought with you as well.

The Truly Important Things in Life
  • If you are true to yourself, then everything else will fall into place.
  • You may not have all the answers all the time.  As long as you do what you think is right, it will work out for the best.
  • Be kind, if nothing else.  No matter how much evil is in the world, we have to break the cycle somewhere.
  • The Golden Rule applies to everything in life.

  • It takes a few seconds to open a profound wound in those you love and many years to heal.
  • A rich person is not one who owns the most but rather who needs the least.
  • Someone can love you with their heart, yet not know how to show or express their feelings.
  • Two people can look at the same thing differently - and sometimes even love each other.
  • To get out of a difficulty, one must go through it.
  • If you fill your heart with the worries of tomorrow and the regrets of yesterday, you will have no today to be thankful for.

The Not So Important Things in Life

  • Pleasing others - for appearances sake
  • Competing with others
  • Worrying for the sake of worrying
  • The 'perfectionist' syndrome
  • Materialism - 'What else do I need?'
  • Complaining - being mean-spirited
  • Rushing - allowing time to take over your life
  • Staying late at work 'to try to catch up'
  • Being judgmental - placing my values onto someone else...

I hope you all had a peaceful and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend with those you love. Wanted to share our latest shot of Andy Jordan resting comfortably after his turkey supper.

Dear Maria,
Lots of lovely food for thought here, and I always think you can do a lot with leftovers! Somehow rehashing them with love and skill actually makes the sum of the ingredients seem better than the whole that you started with.
One of my favorite songs - just beautiful.
That black dawg of yours is my go to person when I think of relaxing. Love Mr. Andy, who has wisdom beyond his tender years.
This beautiful post is pin-up-in-the kitchen worthy!
Love and hugs dear friend!

Hello mar. You share lots of wisdom in this presentation. And knowledge also. I just found out I am rich. That is if this is true,
"A rich person is not one who owns the most but rather who needs the least."

What great leftovers you dish up. Now is the turkey soup ready?

Mmmm, now I'm hungry for turkey soup.
Have a peaceful night. Hugs, mar

A precious list of truly important things in Life. Why does it take so long, and even a lot of emotional pain, before we know the difference between the truly important and the not important at all? Thank you, Maria! Especially at this time of the year we need to read/hear this!

Dear Martie,

It is indeed a travesty that many of us, myself included, don't grasp the importance of life balance and simplicity until a tragedy has occurred.

Thanks for your wisdom and insights.

Love and hugs, mar

Maria, this is truly wonderful advice! What a wonderful reminder of what is truly important in life.Considering the way my Thanksgiving evening ended, being trapped in a flash flood, I know full well just how much I agree with your very wise words! I had plenty of time alone to sit and think about just what was important to me in life as I watched the waters rise around me before they finally receded.

Dear Shannon,

You must surely have a clarity in life perspective after the conditions you've survived~ so grateful you are still in our world.

Have a peaceful evening and take good care of yourself. Hugs, Maria

Prof. Mahreer,

I love leftovers, and it's not worth it to sweat the small stuff. It's way more fulfilling to pursue the positive and the things we love that are good for us.

Thanks for sharing your excellent insight and points, and the always dashing Andy Jordan!

You nailed the not so important things in life, I agree 110% with your list. I would like to add bickering. Constant bickering over trivial matters. That is so annoying. Hateful people annoy me too. Stay outta my aura! :))

Maria.....The only thing better than a huge delicious Thanksgiving feast is "leftovers!" Friday breakfast, lunch and dinner! Hey, it's only once a year. Just do it.
Thank you so much for the beautiful dessert cart you presented to us today. So nice of you! I had only one little slice of pumpkin cheese cake about an hour after dinner. OK, so it was a big slice and maybe it was only 10 minutes after dinner. Oh it was sooooo yummy.
I see you have quite a lovely assortment of delectable tarts for my sweet tooth. They "complete" the day, warm our tummies and make us smile. You always know just what to bring us Maria. You won't mind if I have one of each, will you?
OK! I'll have a big chunk of love, a bowl of comfort, a slice of understanding and a plate of patience.....all smothered in chocolate, cherries and whipped cream....Mmmmmm You're the BEST! Peace, Paula

Dear Maria,
Love your beautiful list, and I agree with Vicki. This list should be pinned somewhere we can see it everyday, as a reminder of what is important and not so important here in life.
Thank you, sweet friend!
Give the handsome and dapper Mr, Andy a kiss from me. :)
Take care of yourself now.
Love and hugs,
Sannel

I love your thoughts, Mar. It's the simple things in life that are important. Too often we get wrapped up in what other's expect of and from us. That's no way to live. I've learned through the years, that being true to my heart and ethics is what matters most. That's one of the benefits of senior citizenship. We're alive to live the lessons learned and help others see the rainbows bursting through the clouds.

I can't imagine a 'senior' cooler than you.

Sending big hugs, mar
