marcoujor: The Story Behind Andy's Birthday

Tomorrow is March 15th.

While known by most as the Ides of March, for 32-years it has been the celebration of Geoff’s birthday. And for the last four years, we ‘think’ we are celebrating Andy’s birthday.

Andy is the fourth dog we have adopted or rescued. With Alvin, Aunt Baby and Zoey, we had documentation, including medical records, breed / family information and birthdates.

On August 7th, 2014, Geoff and I drove over seven hours to check out a sweet-faced Black Labrador, a boy puppy who was “12-weeks of age”. After a general recommendation, I had found this breeder online and had made arrangements via email for the visit.

Both Geoff and I had many questions upon meeting the breeder. We were not invited into her home, which in itself, felt sketchy.

The only thing I was certain of was Andy. He literally jumped into my arms and hung on for dear life. At that moment, I knew Aunt Baby, who left us on May 29th of the same year, had sent this precious boy to us.
We had a visit with our beloved Vet, Dr. Fuoad Abdel, on the Monday after we brought Andy home. We were still awaiting the promised documentation from the breeder - actually we still are … :)

Looking back, it wouldn’t have made a difference. Andy was now a Jordan - hook, line and sinker!

When we told Doc that Andy was 12-weeks old, he quickly corrected the breeder’s verbal report. Our young man, in fact, had the teeth of a 5 - 6 month old puppy. And like the ‘fictitious’ documentation, Andy’s age would have never been a deciding factor on his rescue … I mean, adoption.

Counting back the months of Andy’s speculated age, we decided to have a double celebration on March 15th for the two Jordan men.

Andy will soon / already has turn(ed) four - in human years, about 28 years old. He surely has turned into a young man, seemingly overnight, after we unexpectedly lost Zoey on January 24th.

Andy truly believes his job is to supervise us with unconditional love and loyalty. He is an ongoing reminder of living in the moment and finding joy in the smallest treat or toy. And he reminds us to laugh, even when the days are challenging.

Please join me in wishing both Geoff and Andy a most joy-filled and wonderful birthday… :)

Happy happy birthday to two lucky boys in the Jordan household. Thank goodness you rescued the furry creature from that deceptive place and gave him a beautiful home with a sister that I'm sure he loved for as long as she was with you. Hugs.

Prof. Mahreer,

Beautiful post and a further showing of why adoption is such an awesome way to go with finding new members of the family, whether they have paws, hooves or people-feet!

Lots of love and huge birthday wishes to Chef Geoff and Andy!

Hi Maria, I am crying as usual. It seems that Andy's age was not appropriately ascertained. Let us know what the breeder has to say though it seems uncertain. Take care and best wishes for you, Jeff, and your new family member. Barbara

Hi Mar...
Interesting story of how Andy found you. There are those certain animals that come into our lives quite by chance and slowly teach and change us. Thank you for sharing as always from the heart...

Hugs and Blessings as always.

Andy seems like a wonderful addition to the Jordan family. I'm glad you adopted (rescued) him. I told you loud and clear that he was choosing you and that he needed you to be his, too. Hehe.
What a sweet boy! We rescued a dog from the pound when he was about 5 months old. We love him so. He has issues - he's reactive after not being socialized properly and living in the cage for nearly 6 months - but we love him for who he is and he brings so much joy to our lives.
Happy birthday to the two Jordan men! Hehe. Eat cake and be merry, and for the canine Jordan, perhaps some delicious doggie ice cream is in order...
Hehe. Sending you sweet hugs, dear friend. Big, big hugs!

Dear Cynthia,

I know you are the perfect parents for your dog - so beautiful that you found each other, as we did with Andy.

So true about them bringing "so much joy to our lives".

Hope your week is going well. Love, peace and hugs, Maria

It was lovely to see your dogs among the art work of Sannel. They most definitely fit in perfectly among the many works depicted. My husband wants me to send Wrigley to doggie daycare because he (Wrigley) hates to be alone during the day. I gave it a try, and he seems to love it there. Perhaps I can enroll my husband....just kidding. Will the result result in alienation??? Can't help adding a psychiatric component.

Wrigley sounds pawsitively precious - and I know he is a Momma's boy!
