Considered an American pianist and singer-songwriter of Louisiana Creole descent, Domino was a true pioneer of rock and roll music, while never abandoning his rhythm and blues roots. He was respected and acknowledged by some of the top artists of the day, including Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Characterized as humble and shy in personality, Fats was married to the ‘love of his life’, Rosemary Hall Domino, from 1947 until her death in 2008. The couple had eight children: Antoine III, Anatole, Andre, Antonio, Antoinette, Andrea, Anola, and Adonica. How adorable and authentic is this...?!
In August, 2005, Domino chose to stay at home in New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina approached because his wife, Rosemary, was in poor health.
Saying as much about his decency and loyalty to New Orleans, Domino unexpectedly appeared in the audience at the Domino Effect, where Little Richard and other artists helped to raise funds for rebuilding schools and playgrounds damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
In his long musical span, Fats sold more than 65 million records. Between 1955 and 1960, he had eleven Top 10 hits.
I’ve included a sampling of his work, a hard call indeed - as we celebrate the life and music of Fats Domino!
